Library Activities: May- June
K-2: May 3rd: Students began rehearsing their Readers Theater. Readers Theater is when a story is turned into a script for students to "act out". Some stories include: "The Three Little Pigs", "The Billy Goats Gruff", and "Goldilocks and the Three Bears." Students spent a few weeks practicing their reading parts to become fluent and to read with expression. They also created some props to go along with their story. Students were recorded in front of the green screen using the app DoInk to record students in a storybook setting. Week of May 13-May 30th: Students will learn about and use Code.org to learn more about how computers work. June 3-7th: Students will be able to shop the Book Fair, create wish lists, and participate in a dinosaur lesson activity. | 3-5: Week of April 29th: Grades 3 and 4 continued their research projects. Grade 5 will take their Digital Citizenship post-test. Week of May 6th: Grades 3 and 4 finished their research projects. Grade 5 will play a game of Categories. Students Hard at Work!
Grades K-2 Readers' Theater Videos
The Benefits of Doing Readers' Theater:
Improves Fluency (pace, smoothness, expression)
Students of different reading abilities can read together and help each other
It's FUN!
Readers' Theater is when student put on a short play, based on a story, where students read from a script. The purpose of Readers' Theater is to practice reading fluency and to have fun! Students spent a few weeks preparing, practicing, and performing their plays. After picking their parts, students practiced independently and then with their group. Students also created "costumes" or props to go along with their Reader's Theater. Once students had practiced with me and felt comfortable, students were filmed in front of a green screen. I used the APP DoInk in order to add a setting to their play. I am very proud at how well all students practiced and performed their plays. Each one came out AMAZING!
